Our Morning Speaker: Scott Smith

Scott Smith is a Husband, Dad, Pastor, and lifelong lover of the arts. He’s been married for 20 years to his best friend, Robyn, and together they’re raising two incredible kids—Hope and Silas—in San Diego. Scott serves as the Lead Pastor of Sonrise Church, where he blends biblical truth, creative storytelling, and heartfelt encouragement to help people grow in their faith.

With over two decades of ministry experience, Scott has served in a variety of roles at churches across the country and holds graduate degrees in Music, Counseling, Seminary, and a Doctor of Ministry from Liberty University. His unique background allows him to speak to both the heart and the imagination—something that resonates deeply with creatives and performers alike.

Scott is also a proud CYT dad who’s often heard belting out show tunes around the house—whether or not anyone asked for a solo! He believes the arts are a powerful avenue for truth, beauty, and connection, and he’s passionate about encouraging the next generation to use their gifts for something greater.

You can connect with Scott online at www.scottsmithmessages.com or on social @iamscott_smith.

EXPO Attendee

APEX 2026

What is APEX?
APEX (Advanced Performance Exhibition) is CYT’s premier opportunity for committed vocalists, dancers, actors, and improvisers to receive focused local training that leads to a national performance and adjudication experience at EXPO.

Students can participate in two exciting ways:
  • As part of an auditioned APEX Team, training weekly at their local Branch and performing in person before professional judges at EXPO.
  • As an APEX Solo performer in Voice, Dance, or Acting, you will be evaluated virtually by our adjudication panel.
Why Choose APEX?
APEX isn’t just about competition—it’s about growth, excellence, and community. Whether competing in person before professional judges or sharing artistry through online uploads, participants will:
  • Grow confidently in performance
  • Receive valuable expert feedback
  • Connect and showcase alongside CYT talent nationwide
Let the training begin! We can’t wait to see your Branch take the stage—whether live or online—at EXPO 2026!

APEX Solo Comp is Back!

The APEX Solo Competition is open to all registered EXPO students ages 12–18—no team required! Students can submit individual entries in Voice, Dance, and/or Acting.
  • Submission Deadline: June 1, 2026
  • Online entry only – upload your video submission directly in the category of your choice.
New this year: Solo participants can opt in to join a National APEX Team—a collaborative ensemble that rehearses virtually and comes together on-site at EXPO for a group performance!
