Welcome to the 2019 CYT EXPO!

The EXPO is an annual gathering for CYT students and leadership held on June 26-June 29, 2019. CYT Students (ages 12-18), CYT Leadership, and Spectators (for specific events only) are all invited to attend! The goal of EXPO is to equip, play, and connect with branches from across the country! Here you will find all the information you need for this year’s EXPO experience. Read it carefully as you prepare for your trip to San Diego! Please note, we will continue to add information on speakers, workshops, schedule, etc.

Meet our Keynote Speaker - Amanda Jane Cooper!

Amanda grew up just outside Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She holds a BFA in Acting/Musical Theatre from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, where she landed her first film roles in Smart People opposite Ellen Page and Thomas Haden Church, and in Homecoming with Mischa Barton.

After graduating, she made her New York theatre debut in BUNKED! A NEW MUSICAL followed by the play LETTER FROM ALGERIA. Amanda then starred as Glinda in WICKED (National Tour) for most of 2011, floating by bubble across the country and even performing for First Lady Michelle Obama during the show's 10-week run at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. She then moved to Los Angeles where she landed guest star and recurring roles on GleeBonesCSI: Crime Scene Investigation,  Jessie (Disney) and more. Films include CavemenSuturesDays Like This & more. She's also written original songs for, produced, and starred in two one-woman cabarets at Rockwell Table & Stage in Los Angeles.

For 16 months from December, 2015 to March, 2017, Amanda reprised her role as Glinda in the National Tour of WICKED, visiting over 20 cities for 500 performances for over a million people! Her interpretation of the role garnered praise from critics around the country.

On July 31st, 2017 she made her Broadway debut starring as Glinda in WICKED. Currently, you can find her bubbling up at the Gerswhin in NYC. Amanda is grateful to her team at BRS/Gage & Primary Wave, Stephen Schwartz, Craig Burns, Joan Lader, her family and God.

Long story short, CYT has totally changed my life for the better.

Before You Come to EXPO

Book Your Rooms!
Registration may not be open, but the hotel is ready for you! Book your room today

Pre-EXPO Group Meeting
This is not required, but we HIGHLY RECOMMEND you meet with your EXPO group prior to boarding the plane or loading the car. This way, together, you can go through all of this information, review rules, plan for certain things, and so on.

Branch Intros & National Showcase
We are asking each branch to send us a video to introduce yourself! Keep these videos short (no longer than 20 seconds), with high energy and movement. We will be compiling the videos together for our opening morning, so note that yours may be cut down to make sure we can fit everyone in. Each branch will also provide one musical number (up to 3 minutes, must be on a track, and a CYT approved song). The idea is that we have a wonderful night of entertainment, put on by YOU and your fellow CYT family. The only rule is that whoever performs must be a registered EXPO attendee.

More information on both the Intro Video and National Showcase on the Leadership Page.

What to Pack
Be prepared for warm days and cool nights! We are right on the bay so sweatshirts may be needed. Don’t forget to cover your skin in sunscreen for that San Diego summer sun!

EXPO Rules for Students
Branch Leaders may choose to implement additional rules, but we ask that these be recognized by all students at EXPO.
  • 11pm nightly curfew. For safety reasons and as a courtesy to other hotel guests, we ask that students be in their hotel rooms by 11pm.
  • No boys and girls in hotel rooms without adult present.
  • Must follow the EXPO schedule and attend all events. If students are not going to be attending a scheduled EXPO event, they must be with their parent chaperone (there is plenty of free time at this year’s EXPO, so please do not plan your “pool time” during scheduled events)
  • We are requiring ALL students and leaders to agree to a CYT EXPO Code of Conduct upon registration. We ask that leaders and parent/chaperones help implement these standards for the safety and fun of the group. Be sure to review the code of conduct prior to arriving at EXPO.
