THE GRAND PRIZE

15 Grand Prize Winners will be invited to a virtual Meet & Greet with Jon M. Chu!

Jon M. Chu makes up stories for a living -- and if the success of his film “Crazy Rich Asians” is any indication, those stories can rewrite the rules.

Chu is known for his visually stunning blockbuster films, as well as his kinetic work across various genres, from groundbreaking series to commercials and films. Most recently, he directed the worldwide phenomenon “Crazy Rich Asians”, which has earned more than $175 million in the United States alone. The film was the first contemporary studio picture in more than 25 years to feature an all-Asian cast, and it represents a new chapter in Chu's career.

In the commercial/digital/music video space, he broke new ground by creating the Legion of Extraordinary Dancers (The LXD) and broke records with videos for Justin Bieber and the unforgettable Virgin America Safety Video. Chu is currently in post-production on his most ambitious project to date, the highly anticipated adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda's musical “In the Heights” for Warner Bros.

CELEBRITY WILD CARD JUDGES

Our celebrity Wild Card Judges will each pick one talent video as AUTOMATIC WINNERS of the Grand Prize. There are 5 Wild Card Judges, so there will be 5 automatic winners! And you could be one of them! Note that celebrity Wild Card Judges will watch a select group of videos that have been chosen for their review based on the judging criteria.  They will each pick one winner as their "Wild Card" choice.  Check out our list of judges:

When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and could say, 'I used everything you gave me.

You are unique. You have different talents and abilities. You don’t have to always follow in the footsteps of others. And most important, you should always remind yourself that you don't have to do what everyone else is doing and have a responsibility to develop the talents you have been given.

Talent-Thon FAQ

Will ALL videos be eligible to be judged for the Grand Prize?
  • You must have at least 40 votes ($40 donated dollars) to be eligible to become a finalist and submission must be received by midnight (PT) on June 18th, to be eligible for judging.

Are videos restricted to a certain length?
  • NO. You can make your video whatever length you want. Pro tip: You still might want to consider the judges time when making your video. Though you won’t be penalized, there is no advantage to having a longer video. Why not give them that WOW factor and leave them wanting more! (for those who would like more concrete advice on how long your video should be, we suggest anywhere from 1 - 4 minutes auto do the trick).

Does your talent have to be singing or dancing?
  • NO. You’re the one with all of the talent, so show the world what you’ve got! Get creative! Artists, contortionists, ventriloquists, yoyoists, any-ists, ALL WELCOME!

Can you showcase more than one talent in your video?
  • If you have more than one talent and you would like to find a way to showcase all of them in your one video submission, you may.

Does the video have to be a recent video?
  • NO. If you have a video of you singing a solo or doing a dance from another time, as long as it’s you and your talent, you’re good to go.

Can a group enter the competition?
  • NO. This is an “individual” talent contest. Now, if there are others in your video, that’s still ok, but only YOU will be eligible to win for that video submission. As it states in the official rules: Video submission to a campaign page must include the member of who the campaign page belongs to. Should your campaign win a prize, only the individual whose campaign page won is eligible for said prize. There is only one winner of the prize. Should the video contain multiple people, only the owner of the campaign page will receive the prize.

Can any age enter the contest?
  • YES. There is no age limit, however, minors will need guardian consent during the entry process.

Do you have to be a part of CYT to enter?
  • NO. Anyone and EVERYONE are welcome to enter and join in the FUN!

If I win the Virtual Meet & Greet with Jon M. Chu, is it just for me and where will it be located?
  • First of all, we hope you DO win! And second, the Virtual Meet & Greet will be made up of ALL 15 Grand Prize Winners at the same time (one Meet & Greet event). The location of the Meet & Greet will be online (that’s why it’s called a “Virtual” Meet & Greet).

Will the “Wild Card Judges” be watching every video submission
  • No they will not. Celebrity Wild Card Judges will watch a select group of videos that have been chosen for their review based on the judging criteria. You can read more about the judging process in our COMPLETE LIST OF JUDGING AND RULES

What if someone else posts a video that I’m in without my permission?
  • All videos need to be of the person who is entering the contest. If you have someone else in your video with you (remember, only you can be eligible to win with the video posted on your page), it’s common courtesy to ask them if they’re ok with it. If you find yourself in a situation where someone is still using footage of you without your permission, you can contact talent@cyt.org for further assistance.

What if I still have questions?
