Course Overview: This course is designed to give students the background, overview, and hands-on training to become a director of a fully-staged musical theater production. The course is divided into 15 hours of classroom instruction, and from 35-50 hours of on-the-job, practical training with working directors, musical directors and choreographers who are in the process of producing a fully-staged musical theater show. The major focus of this course is the process of directing a large-cast, children’s musical theater production.  Students will receive training and experience in all aspects of directing, including: pre-audition preparation, the audition process, casting, the rehearsal process, techniques and methods of teaching performance, and post production.
