- Balloons The great P.T. Barnum said over 100 years ago, "Everybody loves to laugh." This class is sure to teach you how to make people laugh. Areas covered will be vaudeville, slapstick, magic tricks, stand-up comedy as well as clowning and balloon tying.

- Come learn one of the oldest art forms at CYT. Get the opportunity to “clown around” without getting into trouble. You will learn to create your own clown character, apply clown make-up, make balloon creations and more!

Clowning and Mime - One of the oldest art forms come to life at CYT. Come learn how to "clown around" without getting into trouble. Learn the style of broad-body comedy and also the fun of mime. Clown and mime make-up techniques will be covered. A makeup kit is available for $15.00.

Thursday Afternoon LIVE - Do you like Saturday Night Live or other sketch comedy shows? We will write and perform our own comedy sketches. Work on your writing and acting skills to bring lots of laughs to the audience. Two sessions of Acting Up or Instructor approval required.

- This multi-faceted beginning drama class deals with the fundamentals of acting, staging, movement and interpretation. Learn how to use your senses and draw upon them to develop characters. Other areas covered may include improvisation, pantomime and readers’ theater.

- Picks up where Acting Up leaves off. Topics include basic acting fundamentals including audition basics, stage directions, terminology, theater etiquette, overview of backstage functions, character interpretation and vocal techniques.

- This specialized workshop will be conducted in three divisions. One area will cover melodrama, a specialized style of acting. The second area will cover comedy and its various styles, timing, and techniques. The last area will be dramatic acting and/or stress drama. A fun class.

- 2 In this class students will be paired up to perform a particular scene from various CYT shows which will be memorized and blocked. The development of character and interpretation will be stressed. This class is for those who really want to work on acting skills and audition callbacks.

- How do you leave your fears behind, put yourself out there, and become the heart and soul of the character you want to portray? This workshop is designed to provide the students the skills to develop a character. It will develop each student’s acting techniques in expressing comedy, drama, farce and emotion.

- Study different acting techniques. Are you a "method" actor? Can you play against type? Course covers the Stella Adler and Meissner acting techniques. Learn to really "put yourself out there" for the world to see.

Simply Shakespeare
- “Speak the speech, I pray you, as I pronounced it to you, trippingly on the tongue.” What did he say? Time to brush up on your Shakespeare! Learn how to handle Shakespeare’s text and verse. Examine the use of verse and prose, set speeches and soliloquies, language and character. Learn how to act Shakespeare and examine the differences between Elizabethan and Modern Acting.

Advanced Acting and Directing Workshop
- You’ll learn how to analyze a scene, covering character motivation and intent. Then, put it on its feed, blocking your own scene. Then you’ll take these tools and apply them to an entire play. In addition, we’ll go see the play that you have studied, and critique it through the eyes of the actor.

- Learn all about the art of miming and its use in theater. You will explore the use of your entire body in expressing a song or story. The use of make-up and costuming for mimes will be covered.

Pantomime
- What if there were no words, and the body had to do all the acting? Come to explore and create a strong acting and performance foundation through pantomime, movement and play. You will build stage presence, focus and confidence.

Take A Chill Pill
- There are two sides to every actor’s story. Onstage, they are full of energy (you know it, you’ve done it). But what happens before/after the show? How do they create this honest energy? This class will focus on breathing and yoga exercises to create an atmosphere that allows an actor to explore new options. So take a deep (sigh) breath. And become the actor you know you are.

- This class will combine the arts of make-up design and character development. Each student will work to develop a character using various acting styles and techniques, then learn to design the make-up for this character.

- The Complete Works of William Shakespeare Abridged - from full houses and standing ovations in London’s West End straight to CYT, this show brings us the best of Elizabethan Theater and the comedy of vaudeville. - If you like Whose Line Is It Anyway?, you will love IMPROVATHON! It’s competitive, team improvisation, played just like a sport - a battle of the wits between teams playing a variety of improvisational games. Previous improv experience or class required; there may be an audition on first class day. Students may compete for a spot on a team for the National CYT Improvathon, July 22-26, 2008, in Denver. Team members must agree to register for the Improvathon Team class, held during the spring session.
