CCT began in the family garage by Paul and Sheryl Russell, both teachers at Christian High, as a vehicle for talented amateur performers from San Diego's local churches. They had two young children and Sheryl was pregnant with their third. That didn’t stop their enthusiasm and twenty-eight years later they are managing the sixth largest theater company and the largest community theater in San Diego County by producing professional quality shows with the community's most talented performers. They remain committed to musical theater and to traditional, family values.
Since the first production of "The Sound of Music" at the historic Mt. Helix Amphitheater in La Mesa, California, in 1980 Christian Community Theater's annual season has expanded to include acclaimed Broadway-style shows and a colorful and exciting holiday favorite Traditions of Christmas--A Musical Spectacular! reaching an audience of over 40,000 annually.
